Just wondering if we have any leagues around yet, or anyone considering setting up a league...
Current problem is that, sure, clans can play together and what not, but there is really no league rules around so proper scrims are all but impossible.
It'd be peachy if someone planning on running a league at some point would at very least write up a league ruleset so clans can start scrimming and practicing with some continuity between them, even if there won't be anny types of tournemets for the better part of a year.

i don't think this game would be very good for competetive play. If your team has half a brain you can make the flag uncappable even if there's a way to get to the flag. Two teams with brains would both do this and the game would become team deathmatch.

Leagues have rules man.
Obviously there would need to be rules against making the flag uncappable.
With a little team work it isn't so hard to take down a vital block and really screw over someone's fort.

We have made quite substancial modifications to the game in v2.0 which are designed to make the flag always cappable.

Under what ruleset? Without a set of league rules it's more just like teams practicing against eachother then a "scrim".
Either way, get me your IRC channel, or just idle #whois-ns on gamesurge when you have a scrim team around, and we'll set something up.

I'm british so don't call it a 'scrimmage' :D Besides, I always thought scrimmage meant practice match anyway :S
If anyone wants a 'friendly', feel free to make a post on our website. We aren't strictly a sourceforts clan (we're a multi gaming wotsit) but feel free to make a post if you want one, there's enough of us that play to make it a decent game.
Maybe if there's any way, or any maps that are good for 12 players we can have a 6v6 or something, that'd be awesome.
We've got a pretty decent dedi, so we should be good for running the server lag free with 12 anyway :P

the slang term "friendly" is derived from the long term "friendly scrimmage", which is an overly polite way of saying a normal scrimmage, which is shortened to scrim for most uses. It's just another peice of slang derived from the same root.
6v6 is HUGE for a SF game... my clan has an active source forts segement only 3 players large at this point in time (although we will be expanding post 2.0)
It may seem that I'm calling the shots to early here, and I really don't have any clue how stable in it's player support V2.0 will be, but I suspect SF clan play will max out at 4v4 sized teams. More players and you use up the ammounts of blocks way to quickly if you're organized.
Surely if you use up the blocks 'too' quickly, that just means that build times will be shorter? I mean, there's no ideal speed to build a fort, just an ideal fort. So if 4, 6, 8 or even 10 people all know what part of the fort they are responsible for (even if one person's job is pressing spawner buttons), as long as they don't get in each other's way they could build a decent fort extremely quickly.
I for one would like to see clan games with short build times for exactly this reason.

As far as build times go for league play, the map plays a huge role in determining how long it takes to build a decent fort. I'd definitely rather lean towards shorter build times than longer ones, to try to promote actual teamwork and prevent super long games, but a build time that works for one map may not work for another.

I'm glad you told me you PMed me, because I never bothered to look before and I have PMs piling up. I did get yours, and I'll try to get on IRC later but at the moment I'm having trouble connecting to any servers.
