A lot of people seem to be confused by the leak and what actually happened. I've created a video to help alleviate this confusion. You should have a better understanding of the leak and what happened after watching this.

The longer you were around the more you would have noticed the problems... Most of them unveiled behind closed doors. The best way I can describe is to analogize a whistle blower high up in a big company. The information he's acting on isn't privy to the public, and it isn't privy to the lower down's. Does that make him wrong? The issue is immensely complicated if we try to objectively analyze who was in the right and who was in the wrong, effectively though, for the better of the community something constructive had be be done with the leakers. Banning them wasn't a longterm solution, sooner or later people would start asking why the hell all the best clan players, the most active betatesters, and the oldest community members were banned. Not that their actions were righteous, but Christ, that would suck ass. What does that say about your mod if most of the original community members who popularized it and helped develop it are banned?

That was very informative. Cleared up a few things I was wondering about.

Personally, I think it casts the SF staff in a worse light than the leakers, and given it was made by an SF staff member, I doubt you're going to get a much more balanced report. Personally, I'm glad everything was cleaned up. I think the fact that Welder, who apparently was the root cause of this thing, is still around says the SF staff think they goofed, and want to make things right.

Are you refering to welder? Welder by his own admission was involved, and largely responsible for the crap leading up the the first leak.

Events

- Welder gets k3ys password by mistake.
- Welder screwed over the forums, new software was purchased.
- Monty gave me the password.
- Vent crew (Me,Kaidus, Monty, hobbes & entRo) did not like where 2.0 was headed/the way development was going.
- First leak as DonutFwar, media generally (http://www.sourcefortsleaked.tk)
- Devs urged all forum passwords to be changed, access to k3ys account still remained.
- Sayyan became friends with vent crew, he was let in on the leakers identities and joined their ranks.
- K3Y's password changed.
- Access to Stieffers account was obtained, his password was a variation of his aim username (stieffstieff2100 - old password)
- K3Y and Yahoo's passwords were changed for safekeeping.
- For a few months we did nothing but watch the dev forums and hope that things would change, we also created a mirror of the entire forums and studied the dev forums in depth using it.
- After time realised the first leak had achieved little to nothing of what we had hoped, begun preparation for second leak.
- Almost gave up on the leak due to being unable to get into the devs svn where 2.0 was being held.
- Last ditch attempt was made to gain access to SVN by logging into stieffers msn and asking Louti for SVN details.
- An email was sent from Stieffers gmail to prove his identidy to Louti.
- Gained access to SVN using Louti's login details.
- An excuse was made that somone was downloading 2.0 using Sayyans proxy server (as it was his IP on the SVN)
- Stieffers forum account lost, but access still available on k3y and yahoo's accounts.
- One picture was leaked as DonutFwar, claiming 2.0 was in his possesion and for the devs not to push it, otherwise it would be leaked.
- Preparation put into place for the 2.0 leak, #battleofelmazuco concept born.
- Wordpress blog created (http://elmazuco.wordpress.com/)
- Mass email sent out using mirror of SF forums and mutiple gmail accounts.
- Blog shrouded in mystery for a while, couple of boring posts made, list of possible sites to upload 2.0 compiled.
- 2.0 uploaded on various sites, entRo was the first to upload one, the host gave the IP away and from there on we knew the game was up and admitted to the leak.
- Mass bans across the SourceForts community, some approve of our actions and become friendly, others disapprove and attempt to rage us, etc.
- 2.0 being pulled off any site we upload to, fast. I decide to host on Suverin and soon recieve letter of illegal activities from host. Leave download link/files up.
- Vent conversation between Khuskan/Stieffers and Myself, Monty, hobbes and Sayyan.
- Apologies from both sides, pull of download from Suverin site and wordpress.

The rest is forum history.

Easter Eggs

- We recieved death threats on the blog.
- Flare posed as a member of Aduro Studios to get the blog removed from wordpress.
- Originally kas posted a video of skywalk on youtube but I quickly removed it as the idiot forgot to turn off vent when he was recording it, so part of a vent conversation was on the video.

Oh, and if you really want to be sure that no staff was in on it, ask Snuffy who was coming in and out of our vent server. We never told him that we were behind it, and made very sure to only talk about leak stuff in a passworded channel. We'd frequently move him out into the lobby, but he could still see who was in there. We did absolutely everything while on ventrilo, so if Stieffers or anyone was coming in, he'd have seen it.

I think even Switch and some others were hanging around our vent server at the time, we just never let them into the channel for obvious reasons.
