Which do you prefer?
Transparent or Opaque.
I like transparent better because you can kinda "counter" their walls and stuff. like if they build right up next to wall. but a opaque wall is kinda a surpise and a mystery. but overall i like transparent.

Here's a crazy idea. Make the bottom half of your build wall opaque and the top half transparent, so that if people want to spy on thier opponent's forts they need to build up over the blind of the opaque wall.

Moved into correct forum.
Personally, I like transparent build walls, although on fortfield, I have kept it how you said; with it opaque on the bottom, but you can build up and spy over the top. Just don't forget your playerclips

Normally it is same to me what kind of wall there is but if I have to choose I select transparent.
Also in my Water Hazard map that transparent wall is quite important because then you can spy and see where enemy takes his flag and so you don't have to search whole half of the map to find the flag.

Chaos it is the same as texturing and opaque wall, no special settings. The kicker is that certain materials have defined alpha channels and set themselves transparent within their own vmt. If that totally confuses you, basically it means if you pick a transparent texture from the browser it will be transparent just as if you picked an opaque texture.
There are plenty of them in there, maybe filter for walls and then scroll down to the crazy combine walls. find the one that looks like the walls you watched citzens pass through in the early levels of hl2 sp and try applying them (there are a lot of versions for some reason). Or you could just filter fort translucent and get the tool texture for transparency (translucent and transparent mean almost the same thing)

Hey, i just tried to use the combine wall, and wondered how i would stop it from dissapearing when you walk away from the center of the wall.
Thanx

I think its just a matter of being up to the mapper whether he wants people to have the oportunity to build counter to what the enemy are building... or not. Its a gameplay question that should really be an element of each unique map, not a case of one is better than the other.

Indeed, because with both abandon and skywalk, it was necessary to have clear build walls, because not being able to see the other side caused buildings that were impossible to traverse, but this is not an issue with a map like fieldtrip, were no one ever completely covers the bottom of the build wall.
