After reading this forum for some time (I am a bit of a lurker), I decided to go ahead and register and formally say hello.
Normally I play a lot of Medal of Honor... but, I am always on the lookout for interesting mods. This one being probably one of the best that I have seen to date.
I was having a bit of a problem even running HL2 ... but, I think with the new machine that I just finished building... I should have no more problems.
I promise to keep an eye on this mod... and give it a test run when the 2.0 becomes official.

I received my copy of HL2 with my ATi Radeon X800. I played the game, beat it... and started looking for mods for HL2. A buddy of mine from Rage3D said for me to check out this site. That was about 3 months ago... I dropped in to say HI, and I get lynched.
WTF is going on here?

You seem like a bit of a technoid...I wonder if you can help me. I am looking to buy an Athlon 64, with an nForce chip, currently I have an AGP gfx card; but that could possibly change. Do you know what options there are in the way of motherboards?
Sorry if you thought you were getting lynched... I'm not too sure what Crazy_Farmer's on about either.

Stinger I have an MSI K8T neo mobo (with athlon 64). This board is semi-old but is very solid. You might just look at MSI's neo series and see what they have in store.

I am an A+, and MSCE certified Computer Tech. I own my own business... So .. yeah, I guess you could say I am a bit of a tech geek.
I ran into a similar problem with my Viddy card being pretty high end, but it is AGP.
My solution was to get the fastest AGP mainboard I could get my hands on.
What I would suggest is to keep what viddy card you have, stick to AGP for now... and spend the extra money on a faster processor.
Something like a 3500+ Venice core, and the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. I have always liked MSI mainboards... always have had good luck out of them.
If you already have a good video card... something around the level of a Radeon 9800 Pro / Geforce FX 5900 Then I would stick to the video card that you have. If not... then I would look at picking up the Radeon X700 (PCI-e -=WARNING=- anything below the X700 Pro on PCI-e is really not worth your money) or the Geforce FX 6600GT (PCI-e -=WARNING=- anything below the 6600GT from nVIDIA is really not worth wasting your money on).
Ram is another thing to think about. Currently I am running G.SKILL SAMSUNG TCCD PC4400 memory. It is designed to run at 550MHz DDR, and I have mine ramped to above 600MHz! However this memory is very tricky to work with. I would not suggest it for novices. Something like OCZ PC-3700EL would be my choice for most people that have never overclocked before. It is very very very fast... but it is also quite expensive.
If I can be any more help ... just let me know.

Thanks Wolf; my brother is an A+ N+ etc. as well, but he works with secondhand stuff, and is never really that much help with what is the best gear to buy, though he does get it for me cheap.
I have a 6600GT, which I am really pleased with, but only a 2400+ which seems to be dying.
How much RAM would you recommend? I have DDR333 at the moment, 512 of it. What do you reckon, do I need faster speed, more than a gig or what? I really have no idea when it comes to ram.

I would recommend at least 1GB of PC3200
www.newegg.com has 2 x 512MB PC3200 EL (EL = Enhanced Latency) for 100 bucks or so... about the best bang for the buck.

As far as SourceForts is concerned... I am pulling down my copy of HL2 again (lost it all during a format) and I will probably see you guys on the servers (I will need to know when and where the servers will be up).

Heh, we finally have a few dedicateds up. You can find a place to play pretty much at any time. Although unfortunately most of those places are running custom maps you probably have to DL off the server. At this point in time we outnumber players to servers signifigantly, so most of the time if you see and empty server, hop on and in no time 3-4 other people will join up.
