You need to create that file in the given directory. I believe that is a file that the Dedicated Server will write to while it is up and running, and it cannot create it by itself. That is my guess.

This was the Basic Walkthrough someone posted on the old style forum, but i cant remember who, Anyways...

I just intall a dedicated server not from a steam account but the real dedicated server. The way I did it was:

We already had a CS Source server and a HL2DM server installed and up to date so you can all use HLUpdateTool to do a HL2DM server. our server is in E:\HLServerDM27018\hl2mp and I have unzip the installation file provided here in E:\HLServerDM27018\ so the game is in E:\HLServerDM27018\SourceForts.

Now this is a windows server. When I started the server I had 2 choices for game HL2DM and SourceForts. You select Source forts and start the server. At this point the server will not show in steam until you go in the console and type :

map sf_abandon

Once you do that the real dedicated server will show in steam.

Another problem was it was showing the HL2DM rotation. So I created a mapcycle.txt and maplist.txt and then added this to both file as content:

sf_abandon
sf_bridged
sf_citystreets
sf_overload
sf_skywalk
sf_testmap

closed the server, restarted it, typed in console map sf_abandon and now all seem to work fine. I added a motd.txt file for the opening screen and created a server.cfg file in the config folder.

To change max players go to the file "valve.rc" - my input (nemesis)

I am having the same problem. Whenever I use the Dedicated Source Server tool in Steam to make a dedicated server for myself and my friends to play on, it always gives me h:\program\gameinfo.txt not found. I created that file/folder and when I did it didn't work anyways, so something is wrong somewhere. I can play the game just fine, but I can't make any server for anyone to play on. Help please.

Copy the SourceForts folder in the appropriate dedicated server folder.

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\(steam account name)\source dedicated server\SourceForts

Find the gameinfo.txt in that folder and rename the game and title from "SourceForts v1.4.1" to "SourceForts v1.4.1 DS"

Now open your Steam menu again and return to the Source Dedicated Server tool. Choose the SourceForts DS entry and modify things from there.

It's also smart to create a server.cfg file in your /cfg folder. Mine looks like this:
  • mp_build_longtime 20
    mp_build_shorttime 8
    mp_build_alternate 2
    mp_fight_time 15
    mp_ctf_autoreturn 45
    mp_build_melee 0
    mp_freeze_max 8
    mp_damageable_pieces 0

    maxplayers 8
    mp_timelimit 81
    log on

Once you have created your server.cfg file and chosen all the options in the Dedicated Server Tool, start the server. Once it starts, go to the console and type "map (mapname)" to start the first map. The "map" command drops everyone from the server, so you should only use it when you first start the server. Any other time you want to change maps from within the console, use the "changelevel (mapname)" command, all sans quotes.
