Default Dedicated Server not loading right?

I can host SF games from in-game but I cannot host SF on DS for some reason; the server does not load a map. DS loads way to quickly and can not be seen by anyone. When I run DS for HL2 or CSS it takes much longer to load and lists a map that it is running. Under SF it never has anything for map and when I select one, nothing happens. It did the same for 1.4.1 and I tried putting the mod in the DS folder as well - it lists SourForts twice in the game selection area and I tried both. Also - I have a 3Mb connection and I can mannage 30KB/s (240Kbps) up or so - how much bandwidth is required to run a given number of people? I have noticed that if you max out U/L it will drag total D/L way down as there is no longer enough bandwidth left for the overhead - Is there a way to limit U/lL speed? If you tell me to do a search on this, expect a tremendous flame.

My server is usually running a total of 700k/second for both up and downstream for 8 players. As far as the map not loading correctly, this has been stated many times here, but I won't tell you to run a search. Instead, I'll tell you that my guide to setting up a dedicated server will be up soon, but until then you should do the following:

Set up your dedicated server and start it. Once started, go to the server's console and type "map (mapname)" to begin the first map.

I did some testing last night and with 5 remote players I was Averageing 25KB up with some 30ish spikes (Hard to say how much bandwidth the game needed because I can't get much more than 30KB up.) And these are Kilobytes - not Kilobits whish Is what networking is still measured in for no apparent reason so if anyone was woundering like I was - on 3 megabit cable It looks like 5 remote players is about max. If I can get DS running I might be inclined to try a hair higher but I think that 6 is just way to close to my limit. My D/l rate was much higher although the two lines mirrored eachother not counting some constant which looked a little highter than 2.

Default starting default map on dedicated server

If you are running a dedicated server you can add the following command within your cfg\valve.rc file so that you don't need to type in the map command every time you start it.

map sf_fortfield

Replace sf_fortfield with the map of your choice.
