This really depends on the map, and on the admins. If u have admins there all the time I would suggest more players, but the way I like sf the most is 4vs4. Especially during build becose then its way easier to get a teamfort instead of small forts made per person. So I would vote 4vs4

12 players is really the max - - it's just on the inside of surviving on the smaller maps, and with any more than 12 players on a server... (atleast from my perspective and what I've seen) load on the server increases more so at 13 and 14 players than it does going from 6 - 10 players.

when its between clans, i'd say 7vs7 would be cool.

pubs get way unorganized and un-fun when there are too many people.
I'd say 4v4 for pubs
