From a developer's perspective, I am in favour of spawn buttons. Players tend to spawn, carry, freeze, repeat, which means during build mode there are never really more than 10-15 blocks being calculated by the server at any one time.
However, it does lend players the option of flooding the map with blocks (although v2 will ship with a server CVAR that will allow admins to limit the number of blocks spawnable on a map. My suggestion would be to use spawners - it's far better for performance and gives users more freedom in the long run.
