Default A discussion about friendly fire

We've been playing quite a bit with friendly fire on in our pub server, and I'm having second thoughts about having it implemented in league play. I like the concept of forcing teams to be more careful in order to be successful, but the game as it is only allows us to be so cautious.

First, it's extremely difficult to tell Rebel from Combine at a distance. The current models have similar coloring which makes figuring out who's who a real problem when they're not real close to you. Throw in the very fast movement speed of some classes, and you'll have a very hard time telling friend from foe.

Second, SF has no radar (yet), or HUD identification for teammates. Even with proper communication, it's impossible to know exactly where all 4 of your teammates are, especially when they can move very quickly. A radar would help some, but some sort of HUD element would be ideal until we can have models and skins which make team affiliation plainly clear. Maybe some sort of colored arrow or symbol above teammates heads, that is visible at all times, even through walls?

I'd like to be able to play with FF on in the league, but team-killing should be fairly easy to avoid, and right now, it doesn't seem like it is. Any thoughts?

For now I think we should have ff off for the league. When sf has custom player models and stuff we should go back and look into ff more.

FF sounded good at first, but I think your right.

I think a DOD:S style overhead sprite would be helpful at least in combating TKing. I'm not the biggest fan of FF however, considering the pace and goal of this game.

Lol I told you lot ff was a bad idea ages ago when you was all getting horny over it, but like I was suggesting back then, make it so that only instant hit bullet based weapons can cause ff, exclude nades and rockets from ff and ff won't be a bad thing anymore (after all it takes a big ass noob to shoot you to death when mani admin is slapping his ass for team wounding, but a nade or rocket can cause unintended chaos).

Out of chaos comes order and the order goes a lil somethign liek this;

"Listen up all you noob mofo bitches, no one i mean NO ONE!!, go past the half way point of the map, if you do you deserve to get team killed"

I (yahoo) think that we (the community) should have ff off for the league. Where is my mistake lol, either you are tired or my grammer is gettting horible now that school has ended :P Maybe I am just tired or something but I don't see anywhere in the post where I is used in the third person.

I have a feeling that friendly fire seems a lot worse in a pub than if it were a league match. 8 on 8 pub matches tend to get a little chaotic.
