Default Play matches without a dedicated server

Me and my freinds often get togerther for LANs, It great fun and we get through alot of games, but how can we play against each other so closely online? finding empty servers, copying IPs through Xfire or MSN... trying to email a 100MB mod install... It all just falls apart. but now we have the perfect solution, one that could easily work for clan matches.

Basically, we use a program called Hamachi - it sets up a virtual lan network that we can join from anywhere. it works exactly like a cable lan in the same room except My mate apathy lives 7 miles from me

basically if whoever has the fastest connection you can find (be it a member of the clan or somebody from the forums) sets up a hamachi network and gives out the password to the players. everyone joins and searches steam for LAN servers. whoever sets up Hamachi could make a LAN game (but it dosnt really matter who) and everyone can play without renting out a server, setting up configs and the malarky. Its stupidly simple - Im crap at setting up networks but this was such a breeze.

I wanted to share this because I know loads of clans cant afford Servers, and not wanting to sound corny, but this has changed my gaming life

sounds too good to be true. How can it overcome lag. Because you are going to have a higher ping to other players if u arent on the same lan

Hamachi is used alot, as it can be used to play over fake "Lan", by Warez-Users. U dont need legal Cd-Keys, but I use it too sometimes to play with my friends who live here, they are local too so should be counted to my "Lan" .
However its a good program, I never got it to work with Steam, I always get the error: Server restricted to Local Clients Class "C"

using hamatchi if you dont have CD keys? what a horrible thought.

If one of my freinds has a game, we all have the game. -_-

that would be because they haven't put "sv_lan 0" in Because it isn't a LAN server, it matters

Hamachi is an incredibly useful piece of software but largely pointless in this environment - you're still playing over the internet, and you still don't have a dedicated server (so the computer serving still has the same CPU load).

It shouldn't be too much of a problem, as long as you've got a computer with more than 2.8 ghz of power and about 1gig of RAM. At LAN parties, I can host 4v4 DoD Source games and still get average fps of over 40, so don't see why this should be any different.

I can't help but think that name - hamachi - of some sort of little animated rodent from japan.
