In a way, I don't particularly care; kind of the same way I don't care about black history month and things like that. I simply don't see the point in someone's pride in their own homosexuality any more than I see a point in being "proud" of my own heterosexuality; it's just who I am, and just as much who you are. Should we cherish our own individuality and the individuality of others? Of course, but only to the extent that it is each person's individuality that lets us progress as a race. We should not, however, use those traits to distance ourselves from others; we should not "be unique for the sake of being unique." The only thing such actions can do is divide us, and that is the exact opposite of what we ought to be trying to do.
I support societal equality for that exact reason: we are ultimately the same. If we cannot agree on that - if we cannot accept our common nature as human beings - we can not both accept the other as an equal.
