Some rules I thought of:
I need to start off by being very clear about a few points.
There is a difference between sucking up and supporting. We are tired of individuals being accused of being fanboys because they appreciate the work that is put into this game. The creation of this combatative two sided community is determental to the morale of everyone and is harmful to the progress of this mod. Critisism is accepted and tolerated quite a bit here, but if you cross a line and continue to spam your opinions or attempt to redicule others into sharing your feelings your posts will be permanently deleted and a one day ban will be enacted.
Everyone has a right to play this game. It does not matter if someone is young, old, intelligent or stupid- if you have not breached the rules of our simple license agreement or been specifically banned from the community- there is nothing that should prevent you from sharing in the enjoyment of a community of your fellow players. To enforce this point, any other members who specifically attack any other individual, or group of individuals will be banned for one day as well as having any offending posts permanently deleted.
Extremists on either side cannot aid balance. This issue comes down to the core of many concerns the community has. Many individuals think that stating the obvious fact that the developers are not the best players of the game supports the idea that we cannot design a game that suits players of all levels. This is not true in the least. Granted these extremes can help: good players can help point out problems (such as overpowered weapons) just as new players can (difficult building), but the community needs to trust that we know our game, very well, we know what is wrong with it and we know what it's good points are. What this means is that we will sometimes announce changes that you very strongly disaggree with- and regardless of how stubborn we may seem in opposition to polls and petetions, you won't be happy with the changes but they are there for a reason. In the future, when a controversial issue rears its head we will lend an open ear. However there will come a point at which we no longer will take input on an issue- when this happens it will be clearly announced, and anyone bringing up what will then be considered a dead topic will face the usual punishment of a 1 day ban and deleted posts.
This is supposed to be fun. As evidenced by the flourishing competetive environments in other games- it is possible to establish a grudgeless and enjoyable league environment. Here at SourceForts we have failed to accomplish this task and have instead created a wedge in the community, splitting up the league members and the casual yet involved players. This disparity has been the cause of some of the unrest in this community. As a result the League Forums, and system will be closed until further notice. We are not trying to discourage league play in any way. In fact we will gladly share links to a third party league if anyone is able to create the correct kind of environment.
This is not a democracy. We are staff, and you are a player. There are reasons for this. You can accuse us of being facists or tyrants as much as you like but when it comes down to it, at the end of the day- you are playing our game, posting on our forum, and chatting on our irc channel. If we feel the need to temporarly relieve ourselfs of you, even if the reasons are not disclosed, there is no reason we should not be able to do so.
Keep in mind:
These bans are to be taken very non-personally. They are for a short amount of time and are intended to let you know that you crossed a line or broke a rule. Don't come back complaining about a ban unless you want an extension. I wish this community could handle functioning in a less censored environment but it's become clear that this is not the case. We want to have fun making the mod just as much as you do playing it.
Discuss.
